Winter storm watch issued on the Coquihalla Highway and Hwy 3

Travellers heading to an from the coast should be aware of some treacherous weather.

According to Environment Canada, a winter storm warning has been issued for the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, as well as for Hwy 3 from Hope to Princeton via the Allison Pass.

"A frontal system laden with subtropical moisture will move across southern BC today through Monday morning bringing a messy mix of rain on top of snow today and the possibility of heavy wet snow at the summit tonight into Monday morning," wrote EC.

"By tonight, the warm airmass will be over southern BC with snow levels near or slightly above the Coquihalla Summit and Allison Pass. Rain will fall over most of the highway with wet snow or rain mixed with snow near at summit."

Up to 25 cm of snow is expected to fall near the summits by Monday morning.

Motorists are urged to prepare for changing road conditions due to the fluctuation snow levels during this period. Visibility may be reduced at times of heavy snow.
