A new bus service between Penticton and Kelowna will cost $5 after the regional district opted for the lowest fare arrangement on offer.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen rejected the recommended price of $8 per trip, which was estimated to raise $120,000 in revenue.
The $5 option is expected to generate $75,000 in revenue.
UPASS would have been allowed with the first option, but it will not be incorporated into the chosen structure.
Another difference between the options is in regional and local integration of services.
The cheaper option requires passengers to buy a separate ticket when transferring to another service.
The regional district explained that the new service is expected to be implemented by September 2019.
