(UPDATE: July 31 @ 3:30 pm) - Crews have cleared the scene of an accident and reopened Hwy 97 between Oliver and Osoyoos.
Police have not provided any further details about the "serious" crash that closed the route for more than seven hours today.
(Original story: July 31 @ 9 am) - Hwy 97 has shut down between Oliver and Osoyoos and it doesn’t appear as though it will reopen anytime soon.
A release from the RCMP says first responders were called to the scene of a “serious” crash on Hwy 97 at Road 22 around 8 am today.
“As of 8:45 am, emergency crews are remaining on scene, with this stretch of the highway being closed indefinitely,” the release explained.
Motorists can detour around the crash via Black Sage Road using Road 22 and Ryegrass Road as connectors to get off and on of Hwy 97.
The RCMP is urging anyone who witnessed “any part of this collision” to contact the Oliver detachment at 250-498-3422.
