A young motorcyclist earned himself a court date after allegedly riding dangerously in a small Vancouver Island community last month.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says the 23-year-old rider was pulled over in the small community of Parksville around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, June 11.
He allegedly “performed a number of dangerous stunts” riding through the downtown core lined with parks, restaurants and crosswalks.
According to the BCHP, the rider did a wheelie while travelling over 130 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, then sped up to a top speed of 193 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
“Fortunately, (the BCHP) was there and was able to stop and apprehend this driver and put an end to his alleged dangerous behaviour,” a release from the RCMP’s highway division says.
The motorcycle was impounded and towed away by police for a minimum of seven days, while the 23-year-old was given a court date to face criminal allegations of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The BCHP release adds: “The young rider will have the opportunity to explain his motorcycle skills to a Provincial Court judge.”
