According to a City of Penticton announcement dated Jan. 12, applications are now being accepted for the hiring of four additional firefighters.

Council had approved the expansion in its final meeting of 2022, and now the hiring process has begun in earnest.

“Once we got the go-ahead from council, we wanted to move quickly so we can get the new personnel in place as quickly as possible,” said PFD chief Larry Watkinson.

“It will take a couple of months to complete the hiring phase and then another few months of training before they can be fully integrated. We’re excited about this opportunity and how it will increase the operational readiness of the department.”
