Green light given for Skaha Lake Park revitalization plan

After nearly two years of public consultation, plans for the revitalization of Skaha Lake Park East have been approved.

With a price tag of between $2.8 and $3.8-million, several additions will be added to the popular park.

  • Completing the replacement of the marina docks;
  • A refurbishment of the marina building;
  • A new and expanded boathouse near the existing footprint;
  • A new splash pad;
  • An extension of a promenade to the marina building;
  • Naturalization of the riparian areas;
  • Other enhancements to trails and green space.

During the public engagement process, 81% of participants said they were somewhat or very supportive of the direction being taken.

Key elements such as a new licensed restaurant and relocating the boat trailer parking lot also received a nod of approval from the 467 respondents.

“Council is pleased to see the planning process for the east side of Skaha Park come to fruition with both a document and vision that will last the park for many years to come,” said Penticton mayor John Vassilaki.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the public process. Your time and ideas shaped the outcome Council supported today.”
