COVID-19 outbreak declared at Kelowna General Hospital

Interior Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 on unit 4B at Kelowna General hospital.

According to the health authority, four patients and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday morning.

Patients with COVID-19 have been relocated from 4B to the COVID unit and there’s been no transmission of the virus to other areas of the hospital yet.

“Outbreak control measures are in place and a team of infection control and communicable disease specialists, along with KGH clinical staff and leaders, are meeting daily to contain the outbreak,” said an IH release.

Despite the outbreak, the hospital remains safe to visit for appointments and emergency care and IH is asking people to continue with any scheduled procedures.

“Self-isolation or COVID-19 testing is not required after visiting the hospital,” says the release from the health authority.

IH is reminding the general public to limit socialization to immediate household bubbles and to avoid having friends or extended family over for visits or gatherings.
