One of the most popular spring and summer activities in the Okanagan will be open soon.
On Monday night, the Starlight Drive-In Theatre’s Facebook page awoke from its winter slumber with its first post since it closed on Labour Day 2022.
A quick update post revealed that the drive-in theatre near Enderby will get its first deliveries next week and that will allow them to set an opening day for the upcoming season.
“It will be May, but the actual date is still in the works,” the post read.
When that actual date is revealed, NowMedia will excitedly share it with you.
This season is getting underway much later than it did in the past two years.
Coming out of a second wave of COVID-19 restrictions in early 2021, Starlight opened on March 18.
Last year, the drive-in’s first summer without any pandemic restrictions since 2019, the drive-in welcomed moviegoers for the first time on April 1.
It will surely be worth the wait though, so stay tuned for more updates on Starlight’s opening weekend in May and what you can expect at the drive-in theatre this year.
The iconic drive-in theatre is located just south of Enderby, a central location for movie fans all throughout the Thompson-Okanagan.
It's a 20-30 minute drive for patrons from Vernon, Salmon Arm and Sicamous, a 55 minute drive for Kelowna residents, 85 minutes from Kamloops and a little longer than that from Penticton.
Once the season kicks into high gear, movie nights typically come with back-to-back showings that feature a kid-friendly movie earlier in the evening that's followed by something catered more towards the grown ups.
You can visit the Starlight website for more information and that's also where you'll find all the information regarding what's playing at the drive-in throughout the 2023 season.
