BC Interior woman, 38, dies after falling out of moving pickup truck

The RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit (MCU) is leading the investigation into the death of a woman in the Kootenays last month.

Police say 38-year-old Laura Morrison of Fruitvale died shortly before midnight on Jan. 9 after she fell from the front passenger side of a moving pickup truck.

Morrison was reportedly travelling in a 2023 white Ford F-150 on Old Rossland Avenue in Trail when the incident happened.

According to the RCMP, the male driver of the pickup truck, who is known to Morrison, was seen at the scene before fleeing.

Unfortunately, Morrison suffered significant life-threatening injuries in the fall and later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

“MCU investigators are looking to confirm the circumstances leading up to Laura’s death and to determine whether there was any criminality involved,” said Insp. Brent Novakoski.

Any witnesses to this incident who have yet to speak with police, or anyone with relevant surveillance or dash cam footage from the area that evening, is urged to reach out to the MCU.

You can reach the unit’s tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
