In this episode of Business Matters, presented by Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union, Rob Cupello is joined by Kelly Gillies, owner of Sona Wellness.
Cupello and Gillies delve into the world of gut health, holistic nutrition, and biohacking, discussing the benefits and idea behind some of the services offered at Sona.
Gillies started her career in physical and mental wellness working in the psychiatric unit at KGH.
“Mental health is my first passion,” says Gillies, “but also at the root of mental health is gut health.”
Although she enjoyed her work at KGH she felt “it really focused on illness” when her interests were more aligned with wellness.
Her diverse experience in health and wellness rendered her uniquely qualified to “tie everything together”, opening Sona as a place people could go to take care of their health through methods they may not have otherwise been familiar with.
Sona offers three main services, colon hydrotherapy, sauna + cold plunge, and nutritional services.
“The colon is like a pipe, things slowly build up over time,” affirms Gillies when asked why someone might be interested in colon hydrotherapy.
Listing a wide range of benefits from balancing gut bacteria to reducing bloating, she advocates that although colon hydrotherapy can sound a bit frightening, the service is “so much more than clearing the colon… our gut health is the link to everything.”
Gillies hopes these services and general education about the digestive system will provide sustainable solutions to gut health issues for many, improving overall well-being.
