Half dozen temperature records fall across BC, including one from 1955

For the seventh day in a row, several heat records were broken in a variety of BC communities.

In total, six daily heat records were surpassed on Friday, with the hottest new record being set in the Chetwynd area.

The area experienced 33.3℃ on Friday, 3.5℃ warmer than the previous record, which was set in 2023.

The oldest record to be surpassed on Friday was in the Fort Nelson area, where a new high of 32.0℃ bested a benchmark from 1955.

The full list of records to be broken on Friday can be found below:

  • Burns Lake area (31.7℃) - old record of 30.6℃ set in 1974
  • Chetwynd area (33.3℃) - old record of 29.8℃ set in 2023
  • Dawson Creek area (33.0℃) - old record of 28.4℃ set in 1996
  • Fort Nelson area (32.0℃) - old record of 30.6℃ set in 1955
  • Golden area (33.0℃) - old record of 31.7℃ set in 1967
  • Mackenzie area (30.6℃) - old record of 28.2℃ set in 2009

While there are no heat warnings across BC as of Saturday morning, there is a special air quality statement for the Chilcotin region.

The area is expected to be impacted by wildfire smoke for the next 24-48 hours.
