Vernon's Vasek Pospisil bows out of US Open, Shapovalov makes Canadian history

After an amazing run at the US Open in Queens, New York, Vasek Pospisil is set to return home.

The Vernon-native lost his round of 16 matchup this morning against Alex de Minaur in straight sets. Those games went 7-6, 6-3 and 6-2.

On the other side of the bracket, fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov was in action on Sunday, trying to make the quarterfinals. He defeated David Goffin in four sets, losing the first 6-7 before winning sets two, three and four by scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3.

This is the first time ever that a Canadian man has made the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam. Bianca Andreescu was the first Canadian to ever win the US Open after defeating Serena Williams in straight sets last year.

In addition to Shapovalov, Felix Auger Alliasime is battling today to try and be the second Canadian in the quarters.
