Vegas stuns Edmonton with last-second goal to avoid 3-0 series deficit

It was looking like the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights were going to go to overtime for a second consecutive game on Saturday.

But, the Golden Knights had other plans and scored with less than a second left on the clock to steal the 4-3 win and make the series 2-1 in favour of Edmonton.

The Oilers got the scoring started early in the first period after Corey Perry buried his fourth goal of the playoffs.

A few minutes later, Perry found the back of the net once again and the Oilers had a 2-0 lead.

Just like the previous game between these two teams, the Golden Knights clawed away at Edmonton’s lead.

By the end of the second period, the Golden Knights found themselves up 3-2 going into the final frame.

Edmonton struggled to put shots on the net in the third period until the final few minutes, when they got some help from Vegas.

Connor McDavid had the puck at the bottom of the faceoff circle and attempted to pass the puck across the net, but instead of the puck finding Leon Draisaitl, it went off the skate of a defender and in, tying the game 3-3.

With the game in its final seconds and overtime on the horizon, Reilly Smith shot the puck and it tipped off Draisaitl’s blade and into the net with 0.4 seconds left on the clock.

The officials checked the goal and confirmed it was good before dropping the puck for a split second to end the game.

While the Oilers are not back in action until Monday, the Maple Leafs and Jets are set to play today.
