CFL picks mgk to headline halftime show at 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg

CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston says the halftime show at this year’s Grey Cup will be “as unforgettable as the game itself.”

The CFL announced today that American singer and rapper mgk, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, will headline the halftime show at the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Also performing at the big game will be Canadian alt-rockers Our Lady Peace, as they’ll open the festivities as part of the SiriusXM Grey Cup Kickoff Show. Manitoba native Catie St. Germain will deliver the national anthem.

“We’re delivering a remarkable sound and atmosphere that will match the world-class action and entertainment on the field,” Johnston said. “An iconic Canadian band to kick things off, a powerful Manitoban voice to honour our anthem and a rising megastar to electrify halftime.”

The halftime show performance will essentially kick off mgk’s Lost Americana Tour, in support of his seventh studio album of the same name, which officially begins two nights later in Phoenix.

In a statement released by the CFL, mgk said “Canada has some of the best fans, so I’m excited to play the Grey Cup Halftime Show and to see some epic Canadian football!”

There are just two weeks of action left in the CFL regular season before the post-season begins in November, with two out of three spots in each division already clinched.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders, BC Lions, Hamilton Tiger Cats and Montreal Alouettes are all playoff bound, while Calgary Stampeders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Elks are battling it out for the final two spots.

With the Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Redblacks already eliminated, one of the four West Division teams that makes the playoffs will crossover to claim the third seed in the East Division.

When the 112th Grey Cup kicks off at 3 pm PT on Sunday, Nov. 16, it will feature the West Division and East Division championships, but that could very well be two West Division teams.
