“Burrows steals, cutting in, shoots, SCORES! They’ve slayed the dragon! Alex Burrows, 5:22 into overtime, Game 7 goes to Vancouver!”
It’s a goal call that Vancouver Canucks fans will never forget and it was courtesy of one of the most popular players ever to wear a Canucks jersey.
Slightly over seven years later, the man who scored that goal, Alex Burrows, has called it a career in the NHL.
The 37-year-old went from an undrafted ball hockey player to a 14-season, 913-game NHL career that featured a 35-goal season in 2009-10.

He became a mainstay on one of the league’s most dangerous lines, alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin, and had a knack for scoring clutch goals.
The Pincourt, Que. native, who spent his final season with the Ottawa Senators, will always be remembered for his 12 seasons in Vancouver, but he did give Canucks fans a parting gift on his way out of town.

Burrows was traded at the 2017 NHL trade deadline for Jonathan Dahlen, who has become one of Vancouver’s top prospects after lightning up the Swedish junior league last season.
A pest by nature, you could ask fans of any other NHL team how they felt about Burrows and they’d tell you how much they hate him.

However, the scrappy winger will always have a place in the hearts of Canucks’ fans who can fully expect him to find his spot in the team’s ring of honour down the road.
He'll continue his hockey career as an assistant coach with the Laval Rocket, the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens.
