PHOTOS: Mount Law wildfire

The Mount Law wildfire erupted late Sunday afternoon in a hilly region just west of West Kelowna and just north of Peachland, and not far from the Okanagan Connector.

Firefighter response, which included four air tankers and four helicopters, was hard and fast. But as darkness fell, the Mount Law blaze continued to spread. By 10 pm, many residents of West Kelowna's Glenrosa neighbourhood had already evacuated their homes.

Meanwhile down in Peachland, property owners gathered where they could keep an eye on the fire, wondering if and when the winds would change and they too would be forced to flee.

Cousins Road, near the top of the town and with a close-up view of the fire as it jumped from tree to tree, was a particularly popular spot.

NowMedia took our first shots at 8pm and our last some two hours later.

We remained primarily in and around Peachland, not wanting to interfere with the situation in West Kelowna.

And each time we found a new location, the fire looked more dangerous and more widespread than the time before.
