The Upper Park Rill Creek wildfire located approximately 13 kilometres northeast of Keremeos continues to burn out of control, but fire behaviour has been minimal in the last 48 hours, according to BC Wildfire Service.
As of 1:27 pm today, the blaze is estimated to be 1,830 hectares in size, with the most recent growth in the south.
It was first discovered on Friday, Aug. 18, and an incident management team assumed command of the Crater Complex on Aug. 23.
"Crews and heavy equipment supported by aviation continue to make good progress on containment objectives," BCWS says, adding that structure protection units continue to monitor conditions and maintain a presence as required.
Heavy equipment has completed guard on the northern part of the fire and has made good progress on guard construction moving south, down both the east and west flanks.
For the areas heavy equipment can't access, firefighters are looking to tie in guard.
"Crews are continuing mop-up of successfully conducted small scale hand ignitions along the machine guard to reinforce the guards and bring the fire safely down to workable terrain," BCWS adds.
Aviation bucketing will continue to support ground crews today in the northeast and southeast of the fire ground, bringing fire safely to guards.
As a haze redevelops with smoke, today's temperature is expected to reach a high of 20°C, and winds will blow from the northeast at about 15 km/h, with gusts up to 25 km/h.
