UPDATE: Coquihalla wildfire caused by semi truck blaze being held

(UPDATE: Aug. 29 @ 3:34 pm) - The wildfire along the Coquihalla that was ignited by a semi truck is being held by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

According to the BCWS, the fire is still 0.1 hectares in size and an initial attack crew is responding to the incident.

DriveBC has not made an update on whether the southbound lane near the initial semi truck fire is still blocked.


(Original story: Aug. 29 @ 2:34 pm) - A vehicle fire along the Coquihalla has spread into an out-of-control wildfire north of Hope.

According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the wildfire near Carolin Mine Road is 1000 square metres in size.

The blaze is being fought by an initial attack crew and an officer with support from helicopters bucketing the fire.

The fire is human-caused and was ignited after a semi truck travelling southbound ignited near Carolin Mine Road.

As a result of the fire, the right southbound lane is blocked and drivers are asked to watch for crews and smoke in the area.
