A new pasta shop has opened in West Kelowna.
Okanagan Pasta Company, a specialty food store owned by Emirhan and Cansu Kolburan, opened its doors on May 12.
“We offer products from Europe and around the Valley, and we produce handmade and machine extruded pastas as well as dry and frozen products,” Emirhan explains.
For the past two years, the Kolburans have been making their pasta in a production kitchen in the McCurdy area for wholesale, but they decided to relocate to West Kelowna for a shorter commute.
“The location we found has a big highway exposure, so we ended up adding a retail section,” Emirhan says.
Both Emirhan and Cansu are originally from Turkey and have earned Bachelor’s degrees in culinary and management.
“We worked in some high quality restaurants in Turkey and we ran our own wholesale-style pastry shop,” Emirhan explains.
In 2014, the couple moved to Prince Edward Island, where they received a pastry education before moving to the Okanagan.
Prior to launching their business, Cansu was the pastry chef at Mission Hill Winery from 2015 to 2020, and Emirhan was the head chef at the Curious Café from 2016 to 2020.
The two have been dedicated to the Okanagan Pasta Company ever since.
Located on Westgate Road, the shop is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.
“If you have a pasta craving, this store will help you get inspired to make a great dinner,” Emirhan adds.
“The doors are open for everyone.”
