A West Kelowna resident has reported a cougar sighting in the Rose Valley neighbourhood.
According to a Facebook post, the cougar was spotted at 11:30 am in Rose Valley Park on the side of the road in front of the pond and up from the fire hall.
BC Conservation Office has confirmed the sighting and the nearby Rose Valley Elementary school is aware of the situation.
According to WildSafe BC, if you do encounter a cougar try to remain calm, make yourself look as large as possible and back away slowly keeping the cougar in view allowing for a clear exit for the cougar.
If a cougar does show aggression, or begins following you, keep eye contact, yell and make loud noises.
The BC Conservation Office Service asks that any wildlife encounters be reported to the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
