Oak Bay Library closed after testing shows presence of asbestos

The District of Oak Bay has closed the library after proactive testing showed the presence of dust contaminated with asbestos in an isolated area of the branch.

Out of an abundance of caution, the library will be closed until Feb. 6, 2023, while the district conducts further testing.

The book drop will remain closed until Feb. 6, 2023. Library items can be returned at any other Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) location.

The library is the only area that requires further testing. All other adjacent areas of the facility, including the Oak Bay Volunteer Services Society and the Hampshire Apartments are not impacted and services at Monterey Recreation Centre remain unaffected.

GVPL customer service line is open Monday through Saturday between 10 am and 6 pm at 250-940-4875.
