UPDATE: Body of missing Shawnigan Lake woman found

(Update: Jan. 26, 2023): The body of a woman missing since January 24 has been found.

She went missing on the afternoon of Jan. 24, and her body was found the next day.

Police do not believe that criminality was involved in the woman's unexpected death.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified, and is also investigating the woman's death.

(Jan. 25, 2023):

Search and Rescue and the RCMP are engaged in a search for a missing senior in Shawnigan Lake.

Mounties said that Janet Klassen, who was reported missing yesterday, was last seen at around 3 pm in the area of White Eagle Drive in Shawnigan Lake. She reportedly went for a walk, but never came home.

The Cowichan Valley SAR team is asking people in the area to check any outbuildings and look under any tarps or shelters or decks.

Description of Janet Klassen:

• Caucasian woman
• 81 years-old
• 5 ft 3 in (160cm)
• 126 lbs (57kg)
• Grey hair
• Brown eyes
