Anyone who had to cancel their travel plans with Air Canada due to the COVID-19 pandemic is now eligible for a full refund.
The company announced today that those who purchased a non-refundable ticket for travel since Feb. 1, 2021 but didn’t fly because of the pandemic can now get their money back.
The revised COVID-19 refund policy covers tickets and Air Canada Vacations packages purchased before today.
It doesn’t matter whether the flight was cancelled by the airline or whether the customer cancelled their own flight.
Customers can submit refund requests immediately as we begin to offer refunds for all fares for flights affected by COVID-19 since February 1, 2020.

"Air Canada will be offering refunds to all eligible customers whether they cancelled their ticket or if their flight was cancelled by the airline,” explained Lucie Guillemette, Air Canada’s executive vice-president and CCO.
“Customers can now submit refund requests online or through their travel agent and we are committed to processing refunds as fast as possible.”
In addition to this new expanded refund policy, Air Canada has revised its booking policies for all future travel, effective immediately.
“In cases where a customer's flight is cancelled or rescheduled by more than three hours, we will now offer all customers the choice of receiving a refund, an Air Canada Travel Voucher or the equivalent value in Aeroplan Points with a 65% bonus,” added Guillemette.
“This new policy will provide more certainty and flexibility, so customers can book their future travel with greater confidence and we look forward to welcoming you back on board."
Since March 2020, Air Canada has refunded more than $1.2 billion to customers holding refundable tickets.
Now, even those with non-refundable tickets for travel over the past 14 months who had those travel plans cancelled can apply online for a full refund until June 12, 2021.
Those who booked through a travel agent must contact their agent directly for the refund and Air Canada confirmed today that it will not recall agency sales commissions on refunded tickets that they process.
