Ava Bracelet: What is it and is it worth it?

The Ava Bracelet is a way for women to learn more about their bodies by measuring seven different parameters:

  • Skin temperature
  • Amount of sleep
  • Resting pulse rate
  • Breathing rate
  • Heart rate variability ratio
  • Movement
  • Perfusion

I have been using Ava for the past six weeks as I was curious to find out about my monthly cycle after having a baby six months ago.

Here’s how it works

I put on the bracelet every night before I go to sleep. During sleep it measures the different parameters. When I wake up in the morning, I sync my bracelet up with the Ava app on my phone to see my daily results.

During the day when I’m not using the bracelet, I leave it charging.

So far, it’s a pretty non-evasive and easy way to track my menstrual phase, fertile days, sleep quality, and stress level.

It’s been neat looking at my sleep data - I didn’t know how varied my sleeping patterns are!

Uses

Fertility Tracking

If you are trying to conceive this bracelet might be for you as it tracks in real-time when your most fertile days are. Other methods of tracking your ovulation is based on single parameters, unlike this bracelet tracks several physiological signals of fertility.

Menstrual Tracking

Our hormones change depending on where we are in the cycle. Learning more about how your body behaves might help with keeping an eye on how we are feeling on a daily basis.

Pregnancy Tracking

Your body goes through a lot of changes when pregnant, and Ava can help you generate analyses to see what you are experiencing while growing a little human inside your body.

Is it worth it?

The bracelet is currently $399. If you are looking for a very easy way to keep track of your fertile days, this is a great option. Once you are done using it, you can try and resell it to recoup some of its initial cost, or pass it along to a friend as these bracelets can be used again by a different individual. Just make sure you clear the memory by syncing the bracelet up to the app before passing your bracelet onto someone else. The next person just has to download the app and create a new account.

Lastly, before you make the investment, you might also want to double check that the bracelet is right for you. If your cycles are not in the 24 to 35 days range or if you have been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, Ava may not be able to predict your fertility accurately. The bracelet is also not meant to be used as a method of contraception.
