My name is Richard Gauthier. I am originally from Montreal, and I moved to Victoria in 2008 after having visited and kind of falling in love with the place. I work as a Peer Supporter on a Mental Health and Substance Use Clinical Outreach team with Island Health. I use my own personal experience with mental health and addiction issues, and as a team, we do our best to support our clients living in the community. In my spare time, I manage Richard Leon Gauthier Photography. I've dabbled in a lot of different artistic mediums: music, acting, stand up comedy, drawing. But photography is the one that is sticking and I am most passionate about.
Why do you use Instagram?
Initially, I used Instagram just as a personal account. But over the past year, I have used it to showcase my photography and to network with other photographers, artists, models and potential collaborators and customers.
What will people see on your feed?
Pictures. I started with flowers and birds and bees, actually. There was this great hedge in back of where I was living and it attracted all kinds of pollinators! Lately, I've been doing a lot more creative portraits. So, a lot of my feed is pictures of humans doing this or that. usually looking fabulous.
Does your page have a specific style?
Its pretty straight forward. It is very much a photography page. I try and post a pic a day. Whatever it is that I may have been shooting that weekend. Like everything, I'm still developing my style. I think I will incorporate more stories.
