(Original story: April 11 @ 4:52 pm) – The Trans-Canada Highway is closed through the Shuswap due to construction work.
DriveBC reported that the highway is closed in both directions through Sicamous, specifically between Old Sicamous Rd and Solsqua-Sicamous Rd.
The closure is due to the R. W. Bruhn Bridge construction project.

An estimated time of opening is not available at this time, but the next update is expected for 9 am on Saturday.
An alternate route is available via Highway 97A or Hwy 97B.
Old Spallumcheen Road is only open to local traffic.
Meanwhile, Old Sicamous Road is open to local traffic by traffic control escort only.
This closure is not part of the construction schedule, which lists a full closure between 9 am to 3 pm on April 11 and 12.
The construction schedule, which can be viewed here, also says the highway is meant to be open between 6-9 am and 3-8 pm. Between 8 pm and 6 am, there are supposed to be 30-minute delays.
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit said the closure is to allow geotechnical experts to monitor the stability of the slope above the highway.
“On Thursday, April 10, 2025, engineers closely examined a section of the bluff where rock sloughed off. It was determined that additional rock could come down with risk of impact to the highway,” the ministry said.
Construction-related closures resumed in the area in January.
Work, which started in fall 2024, will see 1.9 kilometres of Highway 1 widened to have four lanes and the bridge replaced with a four-lane structure.
