Special weather statement issued on the Coquihalla and Trans Canada highways

Travellers looking to use the major Interior highways should be aware of a special weather statement currently in place.

According to Environment Canada, a snowfall warning is in place on Hwy 1 between the Eagle and Rogers Pass. There is also expected snow on the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops, Merritt to Kelowna, and Merritt to Hope.

Anywhere from 20 to 25 cm of snow is expected to hit the region from now until Sunday morning.

"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions," wrote EC. "Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."

Residents should proceed with caution and monitor Drive BC for updates on road closures.
