'Significant' snowfall expected along Hwy 3 and Coquihalla Highway

Environment Canada is warning drivers of “significant” snowfall along BC Interior highways tonight and Friday.

The forecaster has put special weather statements in place for the Coquihalla Highway (Hope to Merritt) and two sections of Hwy 3 (Allison Pass and Kootenay Pass).

The statements warn: “A Pacific frontal system will impact southern BC from Thursday night through Friday. The snow level will be sufficiently low through this period to give potential for challenging driving conditions in some of the heavier bands of snow.”

They add: “A significant amount of snow accumulation could occur over high elevation highway passes.”

Motorists are advised to check road conditions before setting off.
