That detour can add about two and half hours onto travel time, says DriveBC.
An assessment is in progress with the next update anticipated at 3 pm.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for Highway 3 from the Paulson Summit through to the Kootenay Pass.
Be sure to keep an eye on DriveBC if you plan on travelling this route.
