Drivers are being warned of an overnight closure on Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon Thursday night.
BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit said the temporary closure at Tank Hill is to allow for the placement of deck concrete on a new overpass structure.
The construction is part of ongoing repairs to Highway 1 between Lytton and Spences Bridge.
The closure is scheduled from 10 pm Thursday until 9 am on Friday.
“Checkpoints with traffic-management personnel will be set up at the Highway 12 and Highway 8 intersections to provide travellers with information about alternative routes during the closures,” the province said.
Emergency vehicle access will be maintained and local traffic will still be able to access the Gladwin area via Nicomen River Road.
All other traffic will be detoured via Hwy 12 and the Coquihalla.
Anyone travelling between the Interior and Lower Mainland can take Hwy 3 or the Coquihalla.
All drivers are urged to keep an eye out for message boards in Cache Creek, Lillooet and Ashcroft, which will provide detour information.
A second closure will be happening next week.
That one is scheduled from 10 pm Tuesday, Aug. 12 to 9 am on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
