UPDATE: Poor driving conditions on the Coquihalla

(UPDATE: 2:15 p.m.) - A snowfall warning remains in effect for the Coquihalla Highway and driving conditions do not look good.

Pictures posted to the 'Coquihalla Road Reports' Facebook group show fairly heavy snowfall, slippery roads and limited visibility.

Environment Canada expects 20-25 centimetres of snow to fall on the mountain pass today, so exercise extreme caution if you're taking that route or postpone your trip until Wednesday if possible.

(Original story: 6:30 a.m.) - Anyone driving between the B.C. Interior and the Lower Mainland may want to consider an alternate route than the Coquihalla Highway.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the mountain pass and expects 20-25 centimetres of snow to fall through the day on Tuesday.

The dump will be thanks to a Pacific front system that will cause heavy snow at times, creating less than ideal driving conditions.

Even postponing the trip one day is advisable, as the snow is expected to taper off in the evening when the frontal system leaves the region.

“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions,” reads the warning from Environment Canada.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”

Visibility could be an issue in some sections as well and Environment Canada is warning drivers to reduce speed if that happens and watch for tail lights ahead of you.
