(UPDATE: Aug. 11 @ 3:01 pm) – Shortly after NowMedia published their story about the Highway 3 closure, the BC Highway Patrol provided a tragic update.

According to the BCHP, the highway was closed just before 10 am due to a serious crash.

A red Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a white Toyota minivan crashed on the highway.

Sadly, the motorcycle rider, a 44-year-old man from Errington on Vancouver Island, was killed.

The highway remains closed as crews investigate what led to the crash and clear up the collision.

“While it is early in the investigation, speed is being investigated as a factor. No one has been arrested,” the BCHP said in a news release.

Any witnesses of the crash or events leading up to it are urged to call the BC Highway Patrol – Chilliwack division at (604) 702-4039 and quote file (1501) 2025-33691.

Anyone with dashcam footage is also urged to contact investigators.

(Original story: Aug. 11 @ 2:46 pm) – Highway 3 is closed west of Manning Park.

The mutli-vehicle incident that has caused the highway to close in both directions was first reported Monday morning.

The highway is closed in both directions and motorists are being advised to use Highway 5 (the Coquihalla) for an alternate route.

The closure is between Second Avalanche Gate and Allison Pass Summit, about seven kilometres west of the provincial park.

As of 2:45 pm, there is no estimated time of reopening but another update is anticipated for 3:30 pm.

This story will be updated when more details are provided.
