(Update: Feb. 20 @ 6:45 am): Reminder to all travellers today: Hwy 97 will be closed north of Summerland between 11 am and 12:30 pm.
The Tuesday closure comes after the highway's contractor delayed its plan to blast at the site on Sunday.
(Update: Feb. 17 @ 1:00 pm) - Sunday’s blasting closure at the site of August’s rockslide north of Summerland has been postponed until Tuesday.
The highway’s contractor stated the reason for the postponement is to minimize traffic delays for travellers on the long weekend.
Blasting work will take place from 11 am to 12:30 pm on Feb. 20, and up-to-date road conditions can be found online at this link.
(Original story: Feb. 16 @ 7:00 pm) - Another Hwy 97 closure near Summerland is planned for Sunday, Feb. 18.
Motorists travelling between the Central and South Okanagan will want to plan their trip around the 90-minute highway shut down.
It will last from 11 am until 12:30 pm.
The closure is due to ongoing work to mitigate the risks at the site of last summer’s rockslide site.
Recently, AIM Roads said drivers could be faced with intermittent and unplanned closures lasting 15-20 minutes, but there would still be lengthier planned closures needed.
Sunday’s closure, of course, is planned, but motorists using the route should be prepared for potential stoppages at any time.
