(UPDATE: July 19 @ 10 am) - The RCMP says the crash that closed the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) east of Golden on Thursday involved two vehicles.
It was not fatal, but the passengers of both vehicles were taken to hospital with what police called "serious, but believed to be non-life-threatening injuries."
The crash happened near Emerald Lake Road, just west of Field, around 10:40 am.
While the investigation is ongoing, an initial probe found that an SUV was rear-ended by a car as it was trying to turn left off the highway.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact the Golden-Field RCMP at 250-344-2221.
(UPDATE: July 18 @ 3:35 pm) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) has now reopened east of Golden.
It shut down this morning due to what DriveBC called a "vehicle incident," but there have been no further details on the nature of that incident.
(Original story: July 18 @ 11:20 am) - Anyone getting a head start on the weekend and heading to Alberta will want to keep an eye on a highway closure near the border.
According to DriveBC, the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) is currently closed in both directions east of Golden.

The incident and closure itself is around 50 kilometres east of Golden, just west of Field and the boundary of Yoho National Park.
DriveBC says the closure is due to a “vehicle incident,” but the nature of the incident is unknown at this time.
