UPDATE: Hwy 1 reopens through Salmon Arm after fatal pedestrian accident

(UPDATE: Sept. 15 @ 9:08 am) – The Trans-Canada Highway has now reopened through Salmon Arm following this morning's fatal collision.

(Original story: Sept. 15 @ 8:46 am) – The Trans-Canada Highway is closed through Salmon Arm Monday morning due to a fatal crash.

Shortly after midnight, the highway was closed just east of 10th Ave SW in Salmon Arm after a man was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

Police said they were notified by BC Ambulance that the man went into cardiac arrest.

Sadly, the man died of his injuries at the scene.

According to the news release, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation.

Police do not believe that driver impairment contributed to the crash.

As part of the investigation, the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service were called to the scene of the crash.

The highway was closed to allow for this work but a detour is in place.

The RCMP said the highway is expected to reopen later this morning.

The Salmon Arm RCMP are asking any witnesses or driver with dash camera footage of the area at the time of the crash to give them a call at (250) 832-6044, reference file 2025-5462.
