Construction-related closures happening on Hwy 1 through the Fraser Canyon

BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit is advising people of a few upcoming closures on Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon.

On Tuesday, the ministry said the highway will be temporarily closed in both directions at Tank Hill, which is about 14 kilometres east of Lytton, for construction.

The first closure will be from midnight until 4 am on Friday, Mar. 21.

Temporary closures will also be in place in the afternoons (12:30-5:30 pm) on Monday Mar. 24 until Wednesday, Mar. 26.

Crews will be installing steel girders as a part of the new overpass on the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail line.

The work is part of the ongoing replacement of roads and bridges that were damaged in the November 2021 floods.

The province said the closures needed to be coordinated with CPKC and specific closure times may be adjusted to accommodate rail operations.

Emergency services are expected to access through the site, the province said.

Anyone who is travelling between the Interior and Lower Mainland next week can take Highway 3 or Highway 5 (Coquihalla) to skip the delays.
