RCMP have identified the victims of a double homicide in northern BC.

The two bodies that were found on Monday morning belong to Australian Lucas Fowler and American Chynna Deese, a young couple travelling through BC.

Investigators have not said how the pair died, but have classified it as a double homicide.

They were found on the Alaska Highway (Hwy 97), 20 kilometres south of Liard Hot Springs near the Alaska-BC border.

An older blue minivan with Alberta plates was found at the scene and police are hoping to talk to anyone who may have seen the vehicle this past weekend.

Police are also appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage from anyone who was travelling on that stretch of highway between Sunday at 4pm and Monday at 8am.

According to Australian media, Fowler is the son of NSW Police Chief Inspector Stephen Fowler.

“To lose someone so young and vibrant, who was travelling the world and just enjoying life to the full, is devastating,” said a statement from the Fowler family.

“To know his beautiful girlfriend, Chynna Deese of Charlotte, North Carolina also lost her life in this violent event is too cruel.”

The Fowler family is on its way to BC to bring their son home.
