You won’t be seeing this particular highly-modified Nissan GT-R in any live YouTube videos over the next few days.
Mounties on Vancouver Island say they pulled over the driver of the bright yellow Nissan around 6 pm on Saturday after it was caught on radar going 150 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Hwy 19
According to police, the “excessively loud” vehicle caught the attention of a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer in an unmarked cruiser after it accelerated away from a stoplight in the Lantzville area.
The noise allowed the officer to be ready with his laser reader and that caught the driver off-guard, as his Nissan was equipped with a radar detector that failed him in the moment.
“The Nissan GT-R driver, who identified himself as a YouTube influencer, never saw the unmarked police car, and he was surprised that his radar detector stayed silent,” explained Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, BCHP.
“The driver did not realize that in the hands of a skilled police officer, a laser reader will not be picked up by a detector until it’s too late.”
The driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket for $368, which came with the standard seven-day impound for their Nissan.
Despite the circumstances, the BCHP noted that the driver and his passenger were polite throughout the traffic stop.
They accepted an offer for a ride from the BCHP officer and were dropped off at a nearby Tim Hortons to wait for a pickup from his mother.
