A multi-storey building under construction was destroyed by fire over the weekend.
The blaze at the City of Langley construction site began shortly after 4 am Sunday and took firefighters several hours to get under control.
It resulted in residential buildings near the fire at 201 Street and Fraser Highway being evacuated, Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom noted through a media release.
Mayor Eric Woodward from the neighbouring Township of Langley said on social media Sunday that it was “terrible to see” a newer building under construction destroyed in this manner.
“Such a waste,” he wrote.
Four fire crews from the Township assisted the Langley Fire Department with the call, as did crews from nearby Surrey.
“A big thanks to the firefighters from the three municipalities for the combined response with, thankfully, no loss of life,” Woodward added.
A Langley RCMP release said there were no reported injuries and Sgt. Sharoom said an investigation into the cause is ongoing.
Any witnesses who were in the area early Sunday morning, or those with relevant dash cam or security footage that could advance the investigation, are urged to contact police.
