Popular BC climbing spot claims life of 22-year-old woman

A 22-year-old woman is dead after a fatal fall at a popular BC climbing spot.

Just after noon on Friday, Squamish RCMP received a report that a female had fallen from a slackline at Chek Canyon Recreation Area.

First responders attended the scene and confirmed the 22-year-old had died.

Due to the difficulty accessing the bottom of the canyon, Squamish Search and Rescue was called to assist with the recovery of the body.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting an investigation into the incident.

“Victim Services was on scene providing support to multiple individuals who witnessed the incident,” reads an RCMP press release.

“Anyone affected by this incident is encouraged to reach out to Victim Services for support and assistance at 604-892-6153.”
