A pair of motorcyclists who recently had their bikes impounded due to excessive speeding seemingly did not learn their lesson.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says both riders were nabbed for excessive speeding in the same location on the Sea to Sky Highway (Hwy 99), near Porteau Cove, on back-to-back days this week.
The similarities didn’t stop there, as both men told police they had just picked up their bikes from the impound lot after losing them for seven days for a previous excessive speeding infraction.
According to the BCHP, the first incident happened on Monday and the Suzuki being operated by a 54-year-old Burnaby man was clocked going 168 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
“The man’s wife had dropped him off to pick up the bike, and minutes later, she came to pick him up again,” noted a BCHP media release.
The next day it was a BMW bike being operated by a 40-year-old Vancouver man that was stopped after being radared at 143 km/h in the same 80 km/h zone.
Both riders were issued another excessive speeding ticket and yet another impound, but this time they’ll be without their rides for much longer.
“A second excessive speeding offence means a 30-day impound, plus you pay for the extra storage costs, extra insurance costs and escalating high-risk driver premiums,” explained Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
The BCHP estimates that the total costs of the impounds will easily exceed $3,000 for each rider, but says that pales in comparison to the consequences of a high-speed motorcycle crash.
