A marketing firm has said it is suspending its contract with former British Columbia premier Gordon Campbell after a British newspaper reported that he was being investigated for sexual assault in London.
Edelman, which has its headquarters in New York City and Chicago, said Campbell had been a special adviser at the company since July.
But it said it had been “mutually decided to suspend their consulting arrangement” until police in London have completed their investigation.
The Daily Telegraph reported on Friday that Campbell had been accused of groping a woman while he was Canada’s high commissioner to Britain in 2013.
A statement released on his behalf said the complaint had been “transparently disclosed” and was “found to be without merit”.
Campbell was B.C. premier from 2001 to 2011.
