Several seizures of contraband items were recently made at Kent Institution in Agassiz.
According to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), three seizures were made on July 2, 2024 that totalled a value of $67,800.
Items included cell phones and accessories, cannabis concentrate, homemade brew, and handmade weapons.
The CSG said the police have been notified, and the institution is investigating.
CSC officials said in a statement that they use “a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions,” including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.
“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” the federal organization said.
They added that they also work in partnership with police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
A telephone tip line is set up for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about drug use or trafficking activities relating to security at CSC institutions. The toll-free number, 1‑866‑780‑3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
