A notorious sex offender has once again been released into the community in British Columbia.
Randall Peter Hopley, who has been convicted of sexual assault and abduction of a child, will live in Vancouver, according to police.
He has previously been the subject of Canada-wide arrest warrants, including earlier this year when he left a halfway house without permission.
It took police several days to find and arrest him in 2023 after a similar incident.
He has previously served a six-year prison term for the 2011 abduction of a three-year-old boy in Sparwood.
In a notice published on Tuesday, Vancouver Police Department said Hopley, who is now 60, has been “released in the community on a recalculated Statutory Release Date, as mandated by law.”
Police added: “Vancouver Police believe compelling reasons exist to warn the public that he poses a high risk to the public and a high risk to breach his conditions.”
Hopley is described as 5 ft 9 in and about 175 lbs. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
Police said he is bound by the following conditions:
Not to be in, near, or around places where children under the age of 16 are likely to congregate such as daycares, elementary and secondary schools, parks, playgrounds, swimming pools and recreation centres.
Not to be in the presence of any children under the age of 16.
Obey a daily curfew from 6 pm to 7 am.
Not to have direct or indirect contact with victims or their family members.
Not to purchase, acquire, possess or access pornography or sexually explicit material in any form.
Not to own, use or possess a computer or any technological device that would allow unsupervised access to the internet.
Reside at a designated community-based residential facility approved by the Correctional Service of Canada.
Police added that investigators from the High Risk Offender Unit will help “monitor” Hopley.
Anyone who “sees him breaching his release conditions” is urged to call 911.
