A Prince George Provincial Court judge agreed to a joint Crown-defence sentencing proposal on June 8, imposing an 18-month suspended sentence and counselling requirements on a 63-year-old man who pleaded guilty to mischief.
On Oct. 11, 2025, David Allan Bain slashed the rear driver's-side tire of his ex-girlfriend's vehicle after she delivered Thanksgiving dinner to his residence. Evidence included text messages from Bain to the woman in which he admitted slashing the tire but added, “Try and prove that.”
Prince George RCMP went to Bain's residence, arrested him and held him until he was sober.
Court heard that Bain has been on long-term disability leave from Northern Health due to severe double vision. He also suffers from anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and agoraphobia, which keeps him confined to his residence. He worked for 25 years as a registered care aide and served in the Canadian Armed Forces in the 1980s.
“Mr. Bain, this obviously wasn't your finest hour,” Nadon said. “The breakups of relationships are always tense and can be difficult, and sometimes they lead to incidents like this that people end up regretting.”
Nadon said he accepted defence counsel's submission that Bain regretted his actions.
“You have managed to make it this far in your life without any problems with the law, and I expect that you're going to not have any further problems going forward,” Nadon said.
