Less than 24 hours after a fatal fight outside a Coquitlam pub, the BC Prosecution has approved murder charges against one of the men involved.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says second-degree murder charges were laid against 32-year-old Timothy Vansnick on Saturday.
Vansnick and another man were arrested shortly before 10 pm Friday after an altercation-turned-stabbing outside the John B Pub that left one man dead.
Police say witnesses jumped in to provide first aid and CPR to the 35-year-old victim and those efforts were taken over by paramedics when they arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We would like to thank the staff and patrons at the pub who rendered their assistance and did the right thing by cooperating with the police,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Their quick-thinking and willingness to help led to a swift arrest.”
Vansnick is now under a provincial court detention order and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on March 3, 2025.
The other man who was arrested at the scene has been released without charges at this time.
IHIT continues to investigate the incident and says there is no ongoing risk to the public.
