Josephine Knipstrom says her husband was in disbelief when she broke the life-changing news to him.
The Abbotsford resident had just learned that she won $500,000 from the Aug. 13 Lotto Max draw, splitting a Maxmillions prize with another ticket holder from Ontario.
The first person she told, of course, was her husband, who was eating cereal at home at the time.
“I walked into the kitchen and said, ‘I hope you’re sitting down.’” Knipstrom explained. “He was in shock. He had tears in his eyes!”
The couple celebrated their big win by going out for a fish and chips dinner.
While they don’t have any immediate plans on how to spend their winnings, the Knipstroms plan on using some of the funds to help out their daughter and granddaughter.
“I feel like it’s surreal,” Knipstrom said of how it feels to win such a massive lottery prize. “It has not yet set in!”
The winning ticket was purchased and validated at the Petro Canada station on Sumas Way and Marshall Road in Abbotsford.
