Encouraging trends continue: Just 165 new COVID-19 cases and no deaths for BC

British Columbia’s COVID-19 numbers continue to be encouraging and provide hope that the province’s restart plan will go along as scheduled.

Today, health officials announced 165 new cases of COVID-19 in BC over the past 24 hours.

There are currently 2,051 active cases throughout the province, along with 203 people in hospital and 57 in critical care.

For only the second time in the last month, there were no new COVID-19 deaths to report today.

In other encouraging news, the outbreak at Brookside Lodge Nursing Home in Surrey was declared over today.

There have been 3,685,340 total doses of all three COVID-19 vaccines administered in BC, with 345,508 of them being second doses.

"It is very encouraging to see a steady increase in the number of people in our province who are protected with a COVID-19 vaccine,” said the daily COVID-19 update from the provincial government.

“And now, more and more people are fully vaccinated with both of their doses.”

As of today, 74.2% of all adults in BC, and 71.9% of those 12 and older, have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The threshold for entering stage two of BC’s restart plan is a 65% first-dose vaccination rate, while stage three and four require 70%, which means it will all depend on case and hospitalization numbers.

With both steadily declining, there’s no reason to believe that stage two or three of the restart plan, which are both scheduled to happen over the next month, will be delayed.
