Donations needed for treatment of severely abused Pomeranian puppy rescued by BC SPCA

*WARNING: This story contains images that may be disturbing to some.*

A poor Pomeranian puppy is lucky to be in the hands of the BC SPCA.

Eight-month-old Kiki was seized from its owner when the SPCA was alerted that the dog had been horrifically abused by its owner and was being taken to a local animal hospital.

Animal Protection Officers arrived at the hospital and Kiki was surrendered, but not after the veterinarian examined her.

Kiki had a bandage tightly tied around one of her rear legs that had caused a large open skin infection, which had spread to her back and legs.

In addition, x-rays showed that she had a number of older fractures to her ribs.

“Kiki is in unbelievable pain. Her entire back and legs have had all the skin removed due to the infection,” explained Jodi Dunlop, branch manager of the Vancouver SPCA.

“Kiki’s skin has literally rotted off of her and she has fractured ribs.”

Animal Protection Officers will be recommending charges against Kiki’s former owner.

To help the young Pomeranian on her long road to recovery, the BC SPCA is hoping that the public will make some donations towards the cause.

Her care is expected to cost around $6,000 over two months.

“Kiki has an amazing personality,” said Dunlop. “She has suffered cruelty at the hands of humans and deserves a pain-free happy life.”
