COVID-19 road checks in place at 4 locations this weekend

Four road checks will be put in place by the RCMP this weekend, starting on Thursday, as part of British Columbia’s provincial ban on non-essential travel.

These provincial enforcement actions are meant to help reduce COVID-19 transmission throughout the province by limiting travel between three regions.

The road checks this weekend will be located at:

  • Hwy 1 in the Boston Bar area
  • Hwy 3 in the Manning Park area
  • Hwy 5 in the old toll booth area
  • Hwy 99 in the Lillooet area

“People traveling for essential reasons through those areas can expect traffic delays,” explained an RCMP release.

“Signage will be in place informing travelers of upcoming road check locations and providing safe U-turn routes should motorists determine that their travel is not essential and wish to avoid the road check.”

According to the RCMP, commercial vehicles will not be subject to road checks.

At these four locations, officers will be asking for identification from drivers and documentation regarding the driver’s name and address, as well as the purpose for travel.

“If an officer determines that a person is travelling for non-essential reasons they will be directed to leave the region,” added the release.

Those who refuse to do so may face fines under the Emergency Program Act.
